In the face of unending global conflict and oppression, prayer is a long game. Prayer is an act of defiance in the face of despair. Prayer is the “and yet…” that doesn’t give helplessness or hopelessness the last word. Hold in prayer the various people and places in the world that feel far from you and beyond your reach to know how to change for the better. When overwhelm threatens, see what it feels like to pray simply: “I don’t know”. Pray to not succumb to apathy, but, rather, “sustain in me a willing spirit.”
